Cognitive and Physical Disabilities and Aging-Related Complications of DiabetesIn Brief As older adults make up an increasingly larger portion of the diabetic population, the spectrum of diabetes complications will likely expand. In addition to the traditional vascular complications, diabetes has been associated with excess risk for cognitive and physical decline, falls, fractures, and depression. These complications, which are common and can profoundly affect quality of life, will challenge clinicians, health care systems, and public health organizations to identify effective ways of optimizing quality of life among older adults with diabetes.
