The kidney plays an important role in glucose homeostasis and has become a target for the treatment of hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes. This review discusses the role of the kidney in glucose homeostasis and how inhibition of renal glucose reabsorption may become a novel treatment option for type 2 diabetes.
